Hey guys , just searching for opinions on this very fresh ,magic system that I’ve put together. It’s a newish concept that I thought would be refreshing , compared to the regular speaking to ghosts, raising corpses or just bringing the dead to life nothing crazyAfter watching the originals (a show that takes place in New Orleans with supernaturals ) it’s magic system and using the dead ancestors and family members of witches as a source of power , I figured why not take this cool idea tweak it and make it my ownWorld building wise I’ll get to eventually but I like to create magic systems sometimes as a foundation then build up from theirSo similar to the show the Necro’s in my world honour their dead and use their death energy and soul essence as a source of power similarly they have a type of dimensional afterlife that their ancestors can control like a pocket dimension of their very own what keeps these dimensions stable is a network like roots or a mycelium of a mushroom they are all interconnected by a death stream that’s linked to their living blood lines Each have a speciality of magic depending on their family and instead of spell books or grimoires that can be stolen destroyed or lost the knowledge the dead necro had accumulated through out their life can be divined by their descendants using a poison and a ritual that uses a death current to send their barely living soul to that ancestor’s afterlife where they can be trained in the use of that spell or ritualThe only way the ancestors afterlife can be destroyed is either a last living relative dies ending the bloodline and breaking the link which ceases that family’s branch of magic or using a very powerful dark spell that consumes the soul and their memories to a sole necromancer this spell I’ll get into a sec it’s pretty dopeI call this spell the Mycelium Puppetry spellIt Grants the caster the ability to infect living or dead organisms then connect them to the caster through a hive mind with the caster as the queen bee able to see through the dead’s eyes or use spells through them as conduits whilst also absorbing all information from the infectedThe spell requires the caster to make a deadly poison poultice made of the deadliest mushrooms then draw the rune on their forehead which will burrow itself into the users psychic mind the caster will then be able to unleash shadowy tendrils that can infect the dead or the living once connected to the desired recipients the caster will tie the tendrils connected to their fingers to create the hive mind that appears as a shadowy orb allowing the caster see through their eyes and mentally control them as a whole through this orb the caster can cast spells upon and the infected will unleash it through themselves or release more tendrils to infect othersAs the caster is the source of the spell the most obvious and easiest way to break the spell would be to kill the caster except the mycelium now exists inside all the infected especially the caster unfortunately the casters mind can travel through the hive to any desired infected person or creatureThe only sure way to destroy the spell and caster is for a not too far gone infected to perform a Mass purging spell that will erase the caster and infected through the spell that connects them the purger would also be destroyed in the burning light of the Purification spellThis spell has been used by a particular family throughout the centuries until a clever necro born into the family locked away the knowledge so non of their descendants could enact this spell again that could possibly destroy any more necro families and bystanders this spell was once mostly used as a power grab against the other families allowing for the family that harnessed this spwlll to be able to threaten their way out of virtually anythingThis is the beginning of this magic system I’ve cooked up please comment any way I could improve or fill in any gaps that I might have over looked ☺️
