The scenes with Drassi in 9.31 left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I was wondering if anyone else had thoughts on those scenes.First, in the scene leading up to the interview with Erin, Theice — a [reporter] and highest-level member of Drassi’s team except for Drassi herself — argued that, due to her friendship with (and resulting bias towards) Erin, Drassi should recuse herself from interviewing Erin and let someone else (namely Theice) do the interview instead. I thought (and still think) that this was a valid point, and Drassi herself recognized it. What rubbed me the wrong way was how Drassi responded. Part of me gets Drassi wanting to do the interview because she put in the effort to get Erin to actually do the interview, but statements like “Theice, why in the name of the Ancestors would I let that happen” and “Why would I let you do one of the most defining pieces of—of journalism in the history of television” suggest to me that at least part of Drassi’s desire to do this interview is the notoriety of it, and that Drassi may not have as much respect for her team as she claims (I’m not trying to suggest that Drassi is intentionally trying to keep Wistram News Network drake-run, but her desire for the big stories and possible relegation of Theice to Dullahan and Baleros issues might have that effect). Additionally, and more importantly, I feel as though Drassi, as an [honest journalist], should recognize the importance of avoiding bias in reporting and have taken steps to avoid this issue arising.Second, after the interview, because Theice asked Erin hard questions about goblins, Drassi asked Theice who had told him what to say, accused him of being biased, and transferred him off her channel. Two parts of this scene felt off to me. First, the whole bit about who told him to say the stuff about Goblins seems odd. While Drassi’s skill and Theice’s reaction to the accusation seem to suggest that it’s true, it seems to me to be a weird assumption to make, as Theice’s questions and the view they represent seem pretty standard for inn-world. Second, the accusation of bias rings hollow to me. I think Drassi has valid reasons to want Theice off her team, such as the fact that he took instruction from someone else or the fact that he presumably went off-script, but I’m not really sure asking tough questions amounts to bias against Erin, and even if it does, I think it’s better to err on the side of asking tougher questions than softballs.I’m not sure what response I’m hoping for, but I’ve been struggling with these scenes and I was wondering if people have thoughts.
