A very close friend of mine will temporarily transition from a fatfire accumulation wlb to a more chill coastfire one for a few months after they get their bonus from a soul crushing 80 hour per week job. They are 2 tiers below "making partner" and realized the wlb at the next tier is not much better and is not conducive to longevity/health/raising a family.They'll prolly travel the world and do nothing for a few months, then work part time lightly consulting on friends businesses/ chatting with former coworkers for a few more months to figure out a better fit long term career.Has anyone else done something similar transitioning from a high powered job to a more coastfire mentality?Other than obvious things like physically work out, reading about industries/ business ideas you wanna work on, and hang out more with friends/networking, what other things helped with finding a more sustainable long term career?For the people who care about my friends job background:They've been in this career for 10 years, one of those demanding careers where it's like 90% of your identity. Think like law, banking, or consulting where it's insanely client driven and you don't control your own schedule and need to get approved for unplugged time off even on weekends/official holidays. Technically already lean financially independent as of 2 years ago for a LCOL, but they wanted to work more years to have more money for a house in a good school district in a HCOL or be able to send the hypothetical kids to private school. Stretch goal is more money to angel invest in businesses (with the expectation you lose 100% of your money there most of the time). So they'll keep working longer term prolly since the goals are more chubbyfire than leanfire.Also my friend is not me, I thankfully work in an industry not likely to fire me and have nice coworkers and have been coasting for 2 years now :)
