Ethernet smooth stepper over Ethernet switch?

I've got my machine in the shop. I ran cat 6 cable out to the shop where I have my computer but it keeps clogging the fan with sawdust. I want to move my computer inside, hook the CNC to the home network Ethernet switch and leave the wireless mouse and keyboard out to the shop .Has anyone done this? Maybe too much latency to run it live like this?
