We are not from the Islands, but my Daughter will be marrying into a somewhat traditional LDS American Samoan Family. While we are LDS, Hispanic and American Family, she is totally embracing the Culture. Normally, we would do it in the Church Cultural hall (free) w all the tables, chairs etc included, However, there is an issue . A few ( a handful or less) family members insist on BYOB regardless of where it is held. Failure to accomodate may cause a rift. While the community pitches in for events , Weddings, Funerals, etc I still want to be respectful of the budgets of Community members. IMO this should not require the couple to cater to a handful of inflexible people. To keep the peace, they are looking for other Venues locally. My Future SIL is a very young head of his Family after the loss of his G pa and Dad, the former Matais. Due to that -and network of friends including another SIL and my kids etc, they will be popular. the Venue must : 1. Have Very close parking to the entrance due to Mobility for the Older "Elders" of the Family . 2. Have a Kitchen (yes every one will be cooking and Bringing the food). 3. Allow BYOB- in UT if allowed at the venue- it cannot be sold, and has to be provided by the "host" - so much for my Cash Bar idea . 4. Large enough for ( possibly rotating) guests of @/3-400 guests, with chairs and tables included. 5. I would like packages that also include set up and clean up if possible and several hours - since the food will be brought, arranged and served there. 6. I think we can do simple decorations, but if the venue has a Garden or is in a Nursery etc that would be a bonus. 7. Best locations would be prefferably Towards the West side but not in Tooele or Stansbury - Between South Salt Lake , West Valley, West Jordan and as far as Draper would be ok prefer if East to not be farther then 1300 East but best if possible around Redwood Rd. 8. Local Parks dont allow Alcohol so that is not an idea - no one has a home and yard to do it . 9. The couple likes Animae, Asian culture too as well as representing Oceania. They also both speak and Embrace Spanish (TexMex and Andean ) cultures. 10. Since her Dad was so Americanized (he has passed), I don't know how much it would be repected but I trust that my future SIL and his Mom will make sure my Daughter is represented - but she may not speak up so much about that. I will be coordinating w him and his Mom - who is wonderful!, I would like some ideas to maybe help thme narrow down their search. 11. Nonethe less, I have been informed that my "White Girl American Budget ideas" won't exactly fly. So - Venue search it is . Thanks for the help - and anyone more familiar with the culture would help - I am learning and I know each Family Group can be different. I am going to try andlearn howto either steam or Bake Puligi :)
