In this post I'll first fill out the template for r/buildapcforme, then fill out a table with the part type, my comments about the part, and my current suggestion/idea for the part. Sorry if it’s long; if you're only going to read one section, skip the template and read the table. Here's the template:What will you be doing with this PC?Developing games in Unreal Engine 5, playing AAA games, programming with Windows Subsystem for Linux, streaming, 3d modeling, maybe one day VRWhat is your maximum budget? $2300-$3000 for the PC. Maybe higher if monitors and peripherals are consideredWhen do you plan on building/buying the PC? Buying this week, building next weekWhat, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc) Tower required. I would love keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. suggestions or advice, but feel free to make suggestions that don't include them as they can be figured out after.Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location? USA. I'm 10 minutes away from the Dallas Microcenter. Go wild.Reusing parts? No, all my parts are 10+ years old and need to be replaced. Will you be overclocking? Not for the time-being. I would prefer to keep my PC as uncomplicated as possible. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build?I go into detail below the obligatory filled out templateWhat type of network connectivity do you need?Wired, but Wi-Fi is nice to have as a backup, and I might use bluetooth peripherals one dayDo you have any specific case preferences?Repeated below but: Mid-tower or smaller to fit in my desk. Quiet, good airflow, black, No RGB or minimal/disableable RGBDo you need a copy of Windows included in the budget?I'll need a copy of windows only if I need a license to run WSL. I do have questions about OS, which are in the next section.Extra info or particulars:Table below, but also: I get some limited discounts on Samsung products, so it might be good to get a Samsung monitor and SSDHere's the table (mobile formatting is bad so for your convenience I also have a picture)PartConsiderationsSuggestionCPUThis will be both a gaming PC and a workstation, so I need something beefy for both. I strongly prefer AMD.1: Ryzen 9 7950x or 2: 7900xGPUI will be developing in UE5, playing AAA games, and more. I probably need a lot of VRAM, and raytracing isn't very important to me although I may try it occasionally.1: AMD RX 7900 XTX, 2: 4070ti, 3: 4080MotherboardI want at least 8 USB type-A ports. Wi-Fi is nice to have. I want room to upgrade my build over time, so support for 128gb ram and more m.2s would be niceAsus TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5RAMNeed DDR5 for CPU. Probably 64 GB because of UE5 and other dev tasks. At least 32GBCorsair Vengeance 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-5200 CL40 MemoryPSU1000+ watts will allow my system to run efficiently and quietlyCorsair RM1000x 1000 W 80+ GoldStorage2TB M.2 Primary. Not sure about R/W speeds or m.2 gen1: Inland Performance 2TB 3D TLC NAND PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 ($110 at microcenter), 2: Crucial P5 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive, 3: Samsung 990 2 TB ($144 for me)Secondary Storage8TB HDD for storing things I don't care as much about, like videoSeagate 8TB Internal HDDCooling360mm AIO cooler. Might be a bit excessive for someone not overclocking, but I don't want to have to worry about temperature even on long uninterrupted high loadDeep Cool LS720CaseI want good airflow, quiet, minimal RGB. Needs to fit in a space of about 11.5 in wide, 22in tall, 20in long, so probably mid towerCorsair 4000D AirflowMonitorNot sure what I need. Does 1440p, >144Hz refresh rate, <1ms response time sound good for my main monitor? I would also like two other monitors, one normal and one portraitFor primary: 1: 27" Odyssey G51C QHD 165Hz 1ms HDR10 ($209 for me), 2: Asus TUF Gaming VG27BQ 27.0" 2560 x 1440 165 Hz. For second and third, ??MouseTwo side buttons, durable, low lag, a bit heavier than most people use. Currently have a wired SteelSeries Rival 3 but it's not as durable as I expected?KeyboardSomething simple, durable, low lag, minimal RGB. Ideally not too loud when typing, keys not very tall, not "gummy," and I'd like the ability to slide my fingers across keys to push them (for rocket league). Including all function keys and a numpad?Operating SystemI can install but not activate windows, but I'm concerned that I may not be able to use WSL or change the personalization settings to increase font sizes and account for the high screen resolution. I also want to know how I can optimize windows 11 to have the best performance and least bloatWindows 11 Home unactivatedThanks!
