Hey everyone! Some of you might remember my old project, 3D-Print-Sentinel. I’m thrilled to announce its successor, PrintGuard, a completely revamped, open-source project for real-time 3D print monitoring that runs locally on your edge devices. The biggest leap forward is the brand new, custom-trained detection model that is truly state-of-the-art. It’s built from the ground up to be lightweight and powerful, allowing for incredible performance on low-power hardware. I’ve gone from <1 FPS on a Raspberry Pi 4 (2GB) with the old Obico-based model (formerly known as Spaghetti Detective) to a smooth ~15 FPS with the new PrintGuard model. This makes failure detection genuinely real-time.Here’s what’s new and improved in PrintGuard:• Custom SOTA Failure Detection: Ditched the old model for a custom-built one that offers significantly faster and more reliable detection.• Built-in Web Interface: Monitor multiple camera feeds and manage your printers from a clean, easy-to-use web UI.• Direct Push Notifications: Get failure alerts sent directly to your desktop or mobile devices via web push notifications.• Multi-Camera Support: Monitor several printers or multiple angles of a single print simultaneously from one interface.• Seamless Printer Integration: Connects to services like OctoPrint to automatically pause or stop a print job when a failure is detected.• Simple ‘pip’ Install: Setting up is easier than ever. Just run pip install --pre printguard to get started.• Secure Remote & Local Access: Easily configure secure remote access with services like Cloudflare or ngrok directly from the web UI, or keep it entirely on your local network. If you’re tired of babysitting your prints or wasting filament on failed jobs, PrintGuard is a massive step up. It’s free, open-source, and runs entirely on your own hardware, so no cloud fees or privacy concerns.Check it out if you’re into 3D printing or have a Raspberry Pi ready for a new project!🔗 https://github.com/oliverbravery/printguard🔗 https://pypi.org/project/printguard/
