I decided to upgrade some stuff and replace other stuff in my home, and I feel lost as to which products / technologies / directions to go based on my needs. I would love to be pointed in some directions so I can research more effectively. I heard great stuff about home assistant, so I thought I'd post here. What I have:* Cable modem, router, a couple PCs connected via Ethernet, a few devices connected wirelessly.* A Reolink outdoor camera, with video stored on a microSD card. Wireless connection and wired power.* A Ring doorbell. Wireless connection and wired (doorbell) power.* A home-built smart board running off a Raspberry PI. What I want:* Upgrade my cable modem and router. They are both 8-10 years old, not terrible but not great. I can find my own for these, if you all have no suggestions.* Set up a way for my Reolink camera video feed to be stored somewhere on my network so it sticks around longer* Replace my Ring doorbell with something not owned by Amazon, AND not linked to some third-party cloud, AND not tied to a subscription model. Ideally its video feed would go to the same place as the Reolink video, inside my network. HOWEVER: we do use the Ring app to see - and talk to - who's at our door even when we are away. I'd love to keep that, even if I have to set up a way for apps to access that bit of my local network, if possible.* Set up a VPN like Wireguard* Possibly set up a media server so I can stream X.265 video to my old ass TV that only supports X.264 codec. This isn't a must-have, just a wish list.I can also purchase additional hardware (like a mini PC or something) as long as it's reasonable and useful.I don't have any other smart stuff in my home - no fancy light switches, no sentient fridge, no connected thermostat, etc.All suggestions, ideas, and comments welcome, including suggestions of where else to post my question if more appropriate. I'm happy to get full plans, but just knowing what to learn more about will be very helpful.
