I purchased a used 2022 Limited I5 with 23k miles a few weeks prior to my move to Seattle to save money buying in Texas. This was my first experience driving an EV, let alone road tripping one and wow I'm blown away. Figured if I could do this, I could operate an EV without range anxiety. I came from a WRX with very basic cruise control, and no bells and whistles so already massive comfort upgrade.I've compiled all the charge data and pricing here; Driving Recaptl;dr21 total charges, 19 being DCFC, 12 from EATotal cost of $397 for ~2400 milesCharged for ~9 hours total, with an average stop of 26 minutesWent between speed limit + 10 over the whole tripKept it in Eco except when in the mountainsFantastic experienceI created my route based on the availability of fast chargers, so it wasn't the most direct but close. I had no issues with EA chargers outside of not quite getting advertised speeds in a couple spots. I was actually very impressed with the spacing of the overall network on my trip, I would typically go from 85-20% between locations. The lowest I got was 12% in the middle of nowhere Nevada but it ended up being fine. Stayed the night at the one casino in a tiny town that had a level 2 charger. The car operated flawlessly in such varied environments. HDA/ACC was fantastic on those wide open highways, also made my life easier with the one time I hit stop and go traffic. The system also worked super well in the rain. The car had plenty of punch to pass people on those two lane highways.I didn't worry to much about range, because I knew it was going to vary. Places like West Texas with high heat and high speeds or climbing the mountains in Colorado/Utah I was getting maybe 2.4 mi/kw, but then descending mountains I was getting up to 3.6 mi/kw. Did not keep track of my consumption on the route, wanted it to feel closer to a traditional road trip where I didn't have to worry about it. I purchased a Tesla Tap in case I needed it, but never had to use it. UpsidesComfort; this thing is such a comfortable drive. Smooth, quiet, and so easy. Also shoutout to the Bilradio amp setup, made the audio quality so much betterSpace; plenty of space to move my non-furniture itemsCapable; thing was able to carve through mountains, national parks, heavy rain, extreme heat, with such easeTime; ICE would consider this a downside, but charging took such less time than I was anticipating. Average charging time of <30 minutes was greatDownsidesAlert fatigue; this car really barks at you for everythingTurning radius; coming from a WRX is unfair but this things radius is atrociousCharger location; not the I5s fault, but some of these chargers are just in terrible locations. What am I going to do behind a closed coffee shop in a tiny town of 1000 people?Overall so pleased with the performance of this car, cemented my decision to go EV. One thing I'll have to look into is the Comma.AI setup, curious how much easier that makes driving.
