[Unpopular opinion + Rant + Advice + reflection] The toxicity among community college students

Long story short. I graduated recently from a prestigious high school from WA as part of Class of 2021 High School graduated seniors. I applied to 25 universities, including backup, with high school gpa 3.0. However, I got rejected from all the universities I applied to expect, I got accepted to Western Washington University. In addition, Western Washington University was the last university that I heard back, and a few more weeks until National College Decision Day, which of course is May 1st. It was hard to decide whether to go to WWU or to my CC, since I already enrolled as a running start student ( dual enrollment program for those who do not come from WA).I look up to my first major, which is Electrical Engineering, in WWU. It turned out I needed to reapply again to the department once I completed the required prerequisites. If I did not accept electrical engineering, my second major is mechanical engineering, third chemical engineering, fourth bioengineering, and the fifth major aerospace engineering. Moreover, WWU does not have a great engineering program, what i mean by that is that they only offer electrical and computer engineering (one major btw), industrial design, manufacturing engineering, and polymer materials engineering. If you are wondering if I cried in front of my parents, yes I did cry in front of my parents. In the fall 2021 term, I decided to decline the letter of acceptance from WWU and enroll in my cc. So, you might think this is the best decision ever... well NOPE. During the fall 2021 my cc is still doing online while the rest universities throughout the US already opened up the campus to their students and faculty members with health restriction protocol. Moreover, there are dozens of dramas between faculty, administrators, and students as well, whether we should be 100% in-person by the next term or not. My physics professor told the rest of the class after the faculty meeting, that the administrator really wanted to keep online, "due to the rising of covid-19 cases in campus", while blaming students who went to the campus during the fall 2021 (mainly international students studying in the campus library). My physics professor also told the class that the administrator proposed some ridiculous ideas and policies that does not make any sense, such as drinking water and other beverages in the classroom are prohibited, unless the students go outside to the parking lot just to drink it. And THANKS GOODNESS that ridiculous ideas and policies are not passed by the faculty members and administrators .I apologized for the long background story! You may have asked me if the background story does not make any sense to you.So let's dive into the real topic here: The toxicity among community college studentDuring the spring of 2022, in my math classes, there is an activity where we introduced ourselves, and i told the person that " I am a recent high school graduate from prestige high school as part of class of 2021, and I got rejected from every single universities that I applied to, except for WWU." At the end of our introduction about ourselves, he told me that "Community College is the only way!", while laughing under my mask, and rolling my eyes as I returned back to my seat.It is just in campus that I had experience it, in reddit, many reddit users bragged and judged students who went directly to undergraduate universities (including LAC, and mediocre-average universities , as "nOt BeInG SmArT wItH YoUr mONeY", or " I SaVe tOnS of mONeY", or " THis iS bEsT decision EvEr to Go to CC". I will acknowledge and admit that it is expensive to go to university in any country around the world, not just in the US.I argue that in the short-term it would save some money, however in the long term it will not save you a lot of money due to the credit losses between the insustion that you are trying to transfer and your current CC. Or you might stay more than 2 years than you intended, which causes more debt in the long-term, compared to students who started as a freshman in undergraduate universities. CNBC did a great thing that going to CC is expensive in the long-term. https://ift.tt/VSTrEgZ the Michigan State subreddit, one of the Michigan State professors look down and judge students who do not got to cc you are “wasting their money and being smart with your money”, the fact that he bragged from cc to doctrocal, which personally I am so happy for his accomplishments. Many Michigan State students mentioned and called him out that there are transfer credit limits, moreover, the credit limit is around 56 - 60 semester credit. If you are a current student and alumni of Michigan State, correct this wrong. Most of his replies to the Michigan State subreddit constantly bragging how much he saved during his study. One of the reddit users replied to his post that they loved how reddit worship cc is a great path for 99% of the population while looking at undergraduate university and LAC students. I will send the link later, if I find the link, for those who wanted the full story and commentsIf you watch the Jubilees video, “Ivy League vs Community College: Which Education Is Better? | Middle Ground”, just look at the comment. Most comments praised the community college as being “less judgmental, humble, and smart”. The funny thing is that the cc group are being judgmental toward the ivy league students, as the ivy league students demonstrate that it is extremely hard to get into despite how wealthy they are. Personally I do not blame ivy league students that their campus is part of the identity, because they get involved in dozens of student organizations. The funny thing is that cc students do not want to acknowledge and admit their hard work, effort, and stat, and not being happy for them that they were accepted to the ivy league. There are so many wealthy parents who wanted their kids to go to ivy league, but they wanted to play fairly. Moreover, there are so many wealthy students who got a nearly perfect GPA, SAT/ ACT score, great EC, and a great personal essay, but still got rejected from the Ivy league. So many wealthy parents do not want to bribe their way up, due to the legal consequence, and over thousand of USD for legal fees. The comments get so toxic that looking down on ivy league students is “smart”.It is not just online. I have close friends of mine ask me which university I am currently attending. I told her that I got rejected from every single university I applied to except WWU. Then I told her that I am currently attending cc, then she bragged about the benefits in cc, such cheap tuition and lower class size. Then I asked her what is the downside of attending cc, then she constantly bragged that cc is better than undergraduate universities and looked down on who attended undergraduate. I asked whether she got any internship, and she said not yet, so then I asked did make any connections and network with her fellow intended major peers. She told me that does not make any connection with her fellow intended major peers. By the way, by the time of this writing, she is either a junior or senior. I also told her that you study the most popular majors and still do not know what to do without those connections and networking. She blushes off under the rug while still constantly bragging about cc.For those who got rejected it is better to be accepted to a mediocre-average university than going to cc, unless you have financial issues, do not know what to do, or/and intended for vocational programs. You will have a better connection and networking opportunity and getting involved in students organization than cc.Rejection is getting common as the number of applicants increases and rejection increases, while the accepted rate decreases. For the high school graduated class of 2021 and 2022 (2025 and 2026) is the worst college accepted rate in college admission history. As Asian who grew up in the upper-middle class, I wish I could accept the letter of acceptance from WWU, and stay for about a year before transferring to a competitive university. However, the good news: I recently got accepted to UW-Tacoma and UConn as transfer students. I got rejected from UW-Seattle and appealed to UW-Seattle, but no surprise they rejected my letter of appeal. I also got rejected from UIUC, and I am still waiting for UW-Bothell.https://ift.tt/y6gp4F1 for reading my rant.If you have any questions regarding my post, feel free to comment and DM me.
