Frustrated? Yes, but my motto is get bitter or get better. I want to open a discussion to break this down and why some people build tools that take off while others flop, even if the code/solution is similarDisclaimer: I'm not going to drop and names or share what I am working on, lets keep it high levelThere was a tool that blew up in February/March 2023 when ChatGPT started trending. A developer who had 40 followers Tweeted about it during the hype and the Tweet blew up netting him 11k followersOn top of that it netted him a network effect of growth, which took him from $0-$180k MRR or $1,000,000+ a year---------------------------Having always wanted to build in this space I decide to enter this market mid July. In order to be different I decided I need to remix a few features, and become more than just a ChatGPT wrapperSo I built a few things to add more value to the product between July 17 - Sept 17 which is 3 months of coding, longer than I should have, made the same mistake againBut now it feels my product is facing lots of resistance, maybe because we are post hype? Maybe I am not getting the one viral post to blow it up?-------------------------Here are my thoughts and I would be curious to hear yours. He timed it perfectly and had one viral post that put him on the map (getting one viral post can be a game changer). In order to go viral timing was key, but doesn't mean content now cant go viral in this space, its just harder since the novelty has worn off.So moving forward I can shoot shots at going viral, but at this phase in the consumer mind, I am just going to have to accept slow and steady growth until then.I have to focus on differentiating and positioning myself differently and niching down.Curious to know your opinions 👇
